Alignment by Beating from Russian Woman

Updated: Dec 26, 2019

How God makes adjustments in our lives

I have no idea what the heck just happened. I literally just got the snot beat out of me. A Russian woman was twisting my arms, yanking on my legs, jumping up and down on my back and twisting my neck. There was nothing comfortable about it. I was getting pummeled. And it hurt. It wasn’t quite a Kathy Bates in Misery experience, but almost.

Seriously.

Here’s the deal though. It feels good after. I feel as good as I have in a long time. I think that my body has finally been knocked into shape.

Thank you Doc.

You see, my doctor had no intentions on hurting me. She was just trying to fix me. Trying to give me an adjustment. And this just so happened to be like no adjustment that I’ve ever had before. I’ve had a lot of attempted back adjustments by others lately. This wasn’t the adjusters fault, but the adjustment just didn’t work. I didn’t relax and trust enough to make the big change that I so desperately needed.

Why did I need it so bad? Because my body was completely out of alignment and I’ve been in horrible pain.

This is how life works too. Our lives get completely out of alignment. Sometimes we aren’t even aware of it. We have some burden consuming us that is making our lives completely out of whack. After a while, that misalignment starts to cause a lot of pain. Pain that we don’t even realize is ours to fix.

This is where God comes in. He knows that our misaligned lives need an adjustment. He knows that we aren’t going to be able to fix it alone.

So first, God will use His people to try to help us make those adjustments. They may be close friends, family, a counselor, coworker, or a pastor. God places people in our lives to help give us those small adjustments. They try to shed light on the misalignment and help straighten us out. Sometimes that alone works. But when it doesn’t, that’s when God has to step in and make the big adjustment. That’s when God is put in the position of becoming the Russian woman.

We’ve all had those moments in life that have shaken us to the core. That have pummeled us so hard that we thought there was no recovery possible. That have seemed like the end of the world. Those moments in life aren’t necessarily caused by God, but God let’s them happen. Why? Because He wants us to turn to Him for help. God uses these opportunities to make big adjustments in our lives.

Think about the times you have gone in for adjustments. What happens when you tense up and resist the fix? It keeps the adjustment from fully happening, right? You walk out still broken.

But what happens when you fully relax? When you completely let your body rest in the arms of the adjuster and trust? You get adjusted, that’s what. You find relief. You stop the pain.

What we get to choose in life is, do we want the small relaxed adjustments from God? Or do we want to wait for the big pummeling from God like the Russian woman? Either way, it will eventually lead to relief and the ease of pain. We just get to choose which way we get there.

Looking back, it sure would have been a lot easier if I had just relaxed and trusted during my first adjustment. I’m sure you all have moments in your lives where you feel the same.

Of course, wouldn’t it be easier to avoid the adjustment all together? How do we do that? It’s simple…

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” 2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT)
